Exodus 4:16 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God. — Exodus 4:16

Aaron will serve as Moses’ spokesman, and Moses will be to Aaron “instead of God.”

This does not mean Moses is divine. The meaning is functional and representational. Moses receives God’s message and communicates it to Aaron, who then delivers it. Aaron is the visible voice; Moses is the commissioned mediator of divine instruction.

The verse reinforces the structure of delegated authority. Aaron does not invent the message. He speaks what is given to him.
