Exodus 3:8 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. — Exodus 3:8

God declares, “I am come down to deliver them.” This is the language of divine intervention. God is not merely aware of Israel’s bondage; He is acting to rescue them.

The destination is described as a good and large land, flowing with milk and honey. This phrase points to fertility, agricultural abundance, and covenant blessing. Milk points to thriving flocks and herds, while honey points to natural productivity and prosperity. The point is that God is not merely delivering Israel from something; He is delivering them to something.

This verse therefore combines redemption and inheritance. God rescues His people from bondage in order to bring them into blessing.
