Exodus 3:18 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God. — Exodus 3:18
Source Coverage: Exodus 3:18-19

God then gives Moses the plan. Israel’s elders will hear Moses, and together they are to speak to Pharaoh and request leave to worship the Lord in the wilderness.

Two purposes stand out here. First, the immediate purpose is worship. Israel is to be delivered so that they may sacrifice unto the Lord. Second, God already reveals that Pharaoh will resist. This prepares Moses for conflict and shows that Pharaoh’s refusal will become the stage on which God’s mighty hand is displayed.
