Troubled Hearts and the True King

Matthew 2:3When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

The announcement of Jesus’ birth did not bring joy to everyone. Herod heard the news and was troubled—deeply shaken because another King had come. Some hearts rejoice at the thought of Christ; others resist Him. The same light that comforts the searching will confront the stubborn. Herod’s troubled heart reminds us that Jesus demands more than admiration—He demands allegiance.

Herod represents the person who refuses to give up control. Many today feel threatened when God steps into their plans, their comforts, or their desires. But resisting the King only multiplies fear. True peace is found not in keeping control, but in surrendering to Christ. May our hearts welcome Jesus with joy, not trouble.
