Living By Faith
Scripture: Hebrews 12:2
Faith is the fuel of the Christian life—without it, we cannot move forward. Hebrews 11:1–3 reminds us that faith is the “substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Just as a car cannot run without fuel, a believer cannot thrive without faith. Faith begins at salvation when we trust fully in Christ’s finished work, but it must also be lived out daily as we walk with Him (Colossians 2:6).
Scripture gives us three key truths about faith:
- The Definition of Faith – Faith is looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). It’s keeping our eyes on Him in every decision, trial, and circumstance.
- The Description of Faith – Faith is confidence in God’s character and promises, proven true in the lives of Abel, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and countless others. It is both substance (a solid foundation) and evidence (proof God always keeps His Word).
- The Declaration of Faith – Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). True faith is living and active, changing how we respond to life’s challenges, giving God the glory, and refusing to limit Him through unbelief.
Faith is not a vague optimism—it is confidence in the unchanging God who always keeps His promises. It changes our lives, strengthens us in trials, and brings glory to God. Jesus said it plainly: “Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22).
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face; and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”
