Philippians 4:17 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. — Philippians 4:17

Again Paul guards his motives. His letter is not self-serving. He is not fishing for another offering. His real desire is that fruit would abound to their account. He wanted them to share in the harvest of souls and eternal impact that came through his ministry.

This was an eternal investment. Their giving was not merely financial-it was spiritual. And Paul’s emphasis here also points to the church as a whole, giving together through the local church for the work of God.
