Exodus 4:14 | Pastor Burns' Study Notes

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. — Exodus 4:14

The anger of the Lord is kindled against Moses. This shows that Moses’ reluctance has now crossed into disobedience. Up to this point, God has answered each objection patiently, but now Moses is resisting the command itself.

Yet even in anger, God shows mercy. He does not cancel the mission or send someone else in Moses’ place. Instead, He appoints Aaron to assist him. Aaron can speak well, and he is already on the way.

This demonstrates both divine firmness and compassion. God does not surrender His purpose, but He does accommodate Moses’ weakness without removing Moses from responsibility.
