More Than a Body

One afternoon, a local restaurant manager sat across from me, admitting that for the first time in fifty years, he was searching. “In the last few years, I’ve gone from being an atheist to being a believer,” he said. “There has to be more to life than just working, eating, and dying.”

He was right. Deep down, you know it too. You are more than flesh and bone. More than skin and breath. More than biology and science. You are more than a body—you are an eternal soul.

Jesus said, “The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment” (Luke 12:23). God created you with a soul and a spirit—the invisible, eternal part of you that will live on long after your body dies. Scripture says: “…though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).

If all you are is a body, then the best you have to look forward to is death. That’s hopeless! But if you are more than a body, then you have value, purpose, and eternal significance. You were made by God, and for God. You have a Creator who loves you.
